In order to grant autonomy to the better-performing institutions, UGC has notified UGC [Categorisation of Universities (only) for grant of Graded Autonomy] Regulations, 2018 on 12’th February 2018 in the Gazette of India. Under this Regulations, the proposal received from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala has been examined, processed and considered by the Commission in its 588th Commission meeting held on 13th March 2025. The Commission has decided to grade Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, Kerala as a Category-I University as per the above regulations. The University shall now be eligible for all the benefits as stipulated under Clause 4, i.e., Dimensions of Autonomy for Category-I Universities, of these Regulations.
